Elk Grove takes third place at Z-B
Mark Burtan won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.41 and Carl Sugihara won the 100 back in 57.32 and the 50 free in 23.22 as Elk Grove took third place in the Zion-Benton Inviational on Saturday.
Wheeling, paced by a second-place finish in the 200 IM by Tim McDaniel, placed second with 170 points behind winner Cary-Grove (266). Elk Grove had 151.
Niles West Invite: Mundelein got great early-season swims from Pat Falconer (1:44.45 in the 200 free) and Will Davidson (22.17 in the 50 free) to win the six-team inviational at Niles West.
Mundelein finished at 385, ahead of runner-up Niles West (306) and Brother Rice (245), Buffalo Grove (229), Latin (119) and Schaumburg (97).
Buffalo Grove's top individual finish came from Ian Rodriguez in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.78). The Bison also placed third in the 200 free relay with Glen Bernard, Jon Mass, Nick Flynn and Brad Lotzer (1:39.76) and third in the 400 free relay (Bernard, Lotzer, Matt O'Rourke and Rodriguez).
Schaumburg's top finishes came from Ben Epperly, who took third in the 200 free (1:53.11) and second in the 500 free (5:05.07).
