Former Schaumburg library director honored

Michael Madden, former director of the Schaumburg Township District Library, was honored Dec. 4 as an Illinois Library Luminary by the Illinois Library Association. Madden was library director in Schaumburg Township for 41 years and retired last December, replaced by Stephanie Sarnoff.

"This award honors not only his stewardship of the Schaumburg Township District Library, but also his generous mentoring of a generation of librarians and his leadership in the Illinois public library community," Sarnoff said.

Madden also is the recipient of the North Suburban Library System's Lifetime Achievement Award and in addition to his former job as director, Madden is a retired teacher, author, active member of the Schaumburg Rotary Club and past recipient of the Librarian of the Year award from the Illinois Library Association.
