NIU open house:

Northern Illinois University will hold an open house for prospective students, families and friends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Holmes Student Center, at Lucinda Avenue and Normal Road. Visitors to the DeKalb campus will have an opportunity to meet faculty and representatives from academic departments, admissions, student services and financial aid. Open house activities include a campus bus tour, residence hall visits and a university information fair. Many of NIU's academic colleges and departments will also host individual events during the day. No reservations are needed for the open house or any related activities. Morning arrival is strongly recommended to enjoy the widest range of program options. Free parking will be available at the Convocation Center with shuttles buses to the Student Center. PADS event planned:

PADS of Elgin will host a fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at Elgin Academy, 350 Park St., Elgin for "From the Heart to the Hip," a belly dance show by Zayna and Serafina. Library book sale:

The Friends of Dundee Township Public Library will hold a Fall Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, in the meeting room of the library, 555 Barrington Ave. East Dundee. Thousands of newly-donated materials are on sale. Hardbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents, and five romance paperbacks are $1. Hundreds of CDs, DVDs, children's books and more will also be available. Patrons are encouraged to donate one non-perishable food item for the FISH Food Pantry or an approved recyclable bag and receive one free paperback.
