EA's Wadington advances to Class A state golf meet

Elgin Academy's Turner Wadington earned a second consecutive bid to the Class A state boys golf tournament after shooting a 77 at the par-72 Elliot Golf Course Saturday while competing in the Class A Rockford Christian Life sectional.

Wadington will head to state for his senior campaign hoping to find success.

"Turner is really looking forward to getting to the state competition to see what he can do," said Hilltopper coach Bill Harris.

Sterling Newman's Matt Hageman shot a 74 to win the individual title. Morrison and Byron were the advancing teams.

Boys soccer

Westminster Christian 7, Elgin Academy 0: Westminster Christian's boys soccer team came out strong Saturday and blanked Elgin Academy 7-0 in a nonconference matchup.

Tyler Beachler led the way as he gave Westminster (8-8-3) a 3-0 lead in the first half. Ben Carani and Cory Hodge also each had a goal. In the second half Jeff Marshall came out strong when he scored a pair goals to make the final score 7-0.

Ryan Beachler contributed with 2 assists. John Reid, Tyler Beechler, Steven Hoeflich, and Marshall also added an assist to help out the Warriors' offense.

In goal for Westminster was Ethan Flickinger with 7 saves. In goal for Elgin Academy (1-14-1) was Brandon Cork with 8 saves and Jackson Rudolph who collected 4 saves.

Larkin 2, Glenbard North 2: Larkin (11-4-4) battled Glenbard North in its 11th game in two weeks and came out with a tie. Steven Drew was first to score for the Royals on an assist from Fernando Alvarez. In the second half David Rodriquez scored on a penalty kick to tie the game 2-2. Raziel Somarriba was in goal collecting 3 saves for Larkin.

Wheaton Warrenville South 3, Bartlett 0: Vince DiNuzzo recorded 8 saves for Bartlett (9-9-1) as the Hawks were shutout by Wheaton Warrenville South in this nonconference meeting.

Rockford Boylan 4, Cary-Grove 0: Unable to generate any offense, Cary-Grove (14-4) dropped this nonconference match at Rockford Boylan. Keenan Walsh was in goal for the Trojans racking up 7 saves.

Elgin 1, Lake Park 1: Trailing 1-0 at the half, Elgin's Joey Perez scored an unassisted goal to even things up. The Maroons (9-8-1, 3-5-1) held on to conclude this Upstate Eight Conference matchup in a 1-1 tie. Goalkeeper Osiel Ravadan defended the Elgin net tallying 26 saves to keep things even.

Burlington Central 3, Sycamore 3: After falling into a 2-0 halftime deficit, Burlington Central (11-5-3) struck three times in the second half to conclude this nonconference meeting in a 3-3 tie. Trevor Voight got the Rockets on the board with an unassisted goal. Mike McCurdy and Danny Conran each added goals assisted by Nate Parks and Scott Knewitz. In goal, Kyle DeRaedt made 8 saves for Burlington.

Prairie Ridge 4, Rolling Meadows 1: With 2 goals from Marcelo Jorge and single knocks from Jesus Rubi and Zach Piekarski, Prairie Ridge (10-9-1) earned this 4-1 win over nonconference opponent Rolling Meadows. Alex Sauciuc assisted on two goals, and Brandon Pappas had the dish on one of Jorge's knocks. A.J. Sturm handled goalkeeper duties for the Wolves recording 7 saves.

Girls tennis

Upstate Eight Meet: South Elgin's Dana Hildebrandt found success at this Saturday's Upstate Eight Conference meet finishing third overall at No. 2 singles.

Women's soccer

Judson 5, Roberts Wesleyan 0: Behind a two-goal game from Christina Thornton, Judson (6-5-1) earned this nonconference shutout. The Eagles had single goals from Rebecca O'Donnell, Samantha Vestal and Krystle Arizmendi. Vestal also racked up two assists, while Emma Muggs and Baerbel Hartner also tallied assists.

Men's soccer

Judson 6, Calumet-St. Joe's 0: Judson midfielder Mark Howlett was simply unstoppable in this nonconference meeting recording 4 goals to lead the Eagles (9-3-2, 5-0-1) in this CCAC shutout.

Milos Bajic connected with Howlett for his first knock, and Howlett's second score came off a penalty kick. Andrew Weissman assisted Howlett's third goal before scoring one of his on off another Bajic dish. Howlett and Bajic would connect one final time for Judson's fifth goal and Steven Moldenhauer sealed the victory with a goal of his own (Petar Bajic, Leonardo Silva assist).

Kyle Selph preserved the shutout recording 4 saves.
