Smoke puts Round Lake Beach officer in hospital

A police officer was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire started in a Round Lake Beach single-family home Tuesday. Firefighters responded to 24421 Lake Shore Drive at 4:22 p.m., officials said. The officer was taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. The Round Lake Beach building department was on the scene assessing the damage to the home late Tuesday. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fox Lake, Grayslake, Lake Villa, Antioch and Wauconda departments assisted at the scene and at the station.
