Elgin film festival nears:

The first Elgin Short Film Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Admisson is $5 and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Rotary rummage sale:

The Cary Grove Rotary Club is holding a large rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at 746 Northwest Hwy. behind Panera Bread in Fox River Grove. Proceeds will go toward supplementing the Rotary's charitable fund. For details, visit carygroverotary.org.

Arboretum wins award:

Lisle's Morton Arboretum has been honored by the Illinois Association of Museums for its outdoor "Animal Houses" exhibit featuring 11 human-scale animal dwellings. It was chosen from among 16 entries for three Superior Achievement Awards. The award will be presented Oct. 2 in Bloomington. The exhibit continues through Nov. 15 at the arboretum.
