Remembering the war

More than 500 re-enactors from the Northwest Territory Alliance bring the Revolutionary War to life in the Revolutionary War Re-enactment. See battles between redcoats and patriots twice a day. Visit campgrounds to see the life of a soldier in the late 1700s.

Musical garden

Classical guitarist Casey Nielsen plays Asian-inspired music in the Fabyan West Forest Preserve's Japanese Garden. Guests should bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating.

Bread and butter

Costumed docents will demonstrate 19th-century cooking, including how to make butter by hand, at the Durant House Museum's Getting Back to Basics program. Cornbread and biscuits, along with a variety of home-baked breads from the era, will be served with freshly made butter. Guests will have a rare opportunity to view the farmhouse's butter molds and stamps.
