Community Scholarship program: As a result of a joint scholarship development campaign in the business community, the village of Arlington Heights will award scholarships to qualified Arlington Heights residents to pursue educational training, upgrading or retaining. The deadline for submitting the scholarship application is 5 p.m. Friday, July 10. Application are available at vah.com, look under "Quick Clicks" or call (847) 368-5100 to have one mailed to you.

Seventh Ward neighborhood meeting: 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 18, Craig Manor Park; 3-5 p.m. Chippewa Park, both in Des Plaines. Alderman Dan Wilson hosts meeting for ward residents to meet government representative and members of various city departments in a small informal setting. Officials will answer questions and offer advice on improving neighborhoods. Bring a nonperishable item food item, or new or gently used children's book for the Self Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines.
