Make it 6 FVC titles in a row for Jacobs

It wasn't a dominant performance like years past, but in the end Jacobs had secured a sixth straight Fox Valley Conference boys track championship.

The Golden Eagles, with 95 points, outdistanced Huntley, which was second with 86 points Friday night at Huntley.

"We ran well early in the meet, but we were a little disappointed on how we ran overall," said Jacobs coach Jason Borhart. "We were a little banged up. We need to get healthy for next week. This group was determined not to let the streak end."

The Golden Eagles were led by a record-setting performance from senior Brad Foote. Foote launched the discus 170 feet, 8 inches to win the event, which set a new conference record.

Foote broke former Jacobs standout Pat Whalen's record of 169-8 ½ which was established in 2004.

"We finally had a great day to throw with no wind," said Foote. "I felt really good throwing the disc today. I don't really care about records. I just want to help the team win."

The Golden Eagles also got first place efforts from Danny Trevor (110 high hurdles, 15.4) and JM Salcedo in the 100 (10.92). The Golden Eagles also won the 400 (43.14) and 800 (1:31.30) relays.

Huntley, which finished only 9 points behind champion Jacobs, claimed 2 individual titles and 2 relay titles.

Todd Farbiak won the ultra-competitive 800 with a time of 1:57.59.

"There was so many good runners in this race," said Farbiak. "I run better when I am pushed. I had good splits and was consistent."

Josh Sivila claimed the 400 in a clocking of 49.94 for Huntley.

The Red Raiders also won the 3,200 relay (7:55.16) and 1,600 relay (3:23.54).

Dundee-Crown, led by 2 first-place efforts from Matt Cutinelllo, was third with a score of 78. Cutinello took top honors in the long jump (21-11) and triple jump (43-10 ½).

Cary-Grove, with 3 first-place efforts, placed fourth with a score of 54.

Phil Fairleigh finished first in the 3,200 in 9:26.33.

"I was sick during the conference cross country meet so this was a little revenge," said Fairleigh. "I just hung in there with the leaders and had a lot left at the end."

Other first-place finishers for the Trojans were Dan McCall (300 hurdles, 39.86) and Zach Zimay (200, 22.89).

Crystal Lake South placed sixth with a score of 49 points.

Stephen Rogers was second in the 800 while Emmanuel Gamez was second in the 200. The Gators were also second in the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Prairie Ridge was eighth with a score of 36.

The Wolves' David Carbajal won the shot put with a heave of 56-8.

"I had a good week of practice and it was a great day to throw," said Carbajal. "I feel ready for the sectionals next week."

Grayslake North, with a first place effort from Nick Lane, was 10th with 18 points.

Lane won the 1600 in a time of 4:22.89.

"I had a good plan and had a lot left at the end," said Lane. "I just want to get the qualifying time and keep getting better."

Grayslake Central was 11th with 10 points.

The Rams' best effort was a fourth place finish in the 400 relay.
