Dryer fire damages Elgin home

A dryer fire caused $15,000 in damage to an Elgin home Thursday, officials said.

Elgin Fire Capt. Tim Maroder said his department received a call around 5:30 p.m. that there was a fire on the 1800 block of Castle Pine Circle.

A mother and three children were home when a smoke detector went off.

Maroder said the woman went upstairs and found smoke and flames coming out of the closet, where the laundry machines were located. She took the children outside and called 911.

No one was injured, Maroder said, but the second floor of the home sustained smoke damage.
