Harvest market open:

The Downtown Elgin Harvest Market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 8 at the city hall parking lot, the corner of East Highland and Douglas avenues. Area growers bring fresh, quality vegetables, fruits, flowers, bread, meat, eggs, olive oil and more. Special events are planned for each week as well. Music at the mall

Algonquin Commons continues its free, live concert series on Sunday. The series, which features a full range of music that includes classic rock and reggae, runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Sundays, concluding Aug. 9. Enroll in literacy program:

The Literacy Connection is offering tutoring this summer for children entering first through fifth grade who need extra help in reading or math. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday from July 9 through Aug. 14. You can enroll your child anytime between July 9 and Aug. 3. Tutoring sessions will be held at the Literacy Connection's office in the Meadowdale Shopping Center in Carpentersville.
