District 300 recaps Relay:

More than 750 students, parents, staff and others in Community Unit District 300 raised more than $80,000 in the district's Relay for Life in May. This year's relay, a fundraiser for cancer research, was the first in which students from all three district high schools participated. NIU nets PR award:

Northern Illinois University's Office of Public Affairs was on the front lines of the Feb. 14, 2008, tragedy on NIU's DeKalb campus, keeping students informed and fielding questions from news outlets around the world. In recognition of the efforts of the public affairs staff after the campus shooting, the Public Relationship Society of America has honored NIU with the Best of the Silver Anvil Award and an award for Best Crisis Communications. NIU's staff bested entries from almost 900 public relations outfits across the country to win the Silver Anvil Award, among the top prizes in the public relations profession.

Healthy living summit planned:

Activate Elgin, a community coalition, will host its first annual healthy living summit, "Active Living and Healthy Eating: Through Community Partnership," from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 25 at Elgin Community College. This expo is geared toward local businesses, schools, health care organizations, faith-based entities, neighborhood associations and community groups. Attendees will gain insight on the obesity epidemic and health initiatives in the Elgin community, explore opportunities to deepen existing and grow new community partnerships. Cemetery's plight:

What will happen to the abandoned Schroeder Cemetery near Dundee Middle School? Find out when the Kane County Genealogical Society discusses the history of the burial grounds at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St., Geneva.
