Bartlett arts fest to be held June 27-28

The annual Bartlett Festival of the Arts will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 27-28, in Bartlett Park. More than 50 artists will display and sell their work in a wide range of 2-D and 3-D media, from paintings, photography, fiber, sculpture, glass, jewelry, wood and more.

Entertainment will include music, local dance troupes, a drama by the Bartlett Historical Society, drumming circles and henna art in the World Tent, face painting, storytelling and art projects in the children's Art Gazebo. A food and wine tent, complemented by various snack vendors, will be provided.

Volunteers are needed both days to help artists set up, staff the Information Tent, pass out programs and many other tasks. Call (630) 372-4152.

Palatine to host dog carnival Thursday

The Palatine Park District will put on a Canine Carnival from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Palatine's Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road.

The event will feature games, raffles, dog body-painting, a fun house and photo opportunities. Dog handlers must be 16 or older. Cost is $5 per dog and handler, and $1 for each additional friend and family member. To participate, dogs must be wearing a current rabies tag and be kept on a leash at all times. Two suburban senior health fairs planned

Two health fairs to provide free screenings and information for seniors are planned this week and next in Schaumburg and Bartlett, respectively.

The first is 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 18, at the Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Come for blood pressure, spinal, hearing and vision screenings; feet scans; chair and table massages; and a rules-of-the-road class at 10 a.m.

A second fair is 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 22, at Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road, for blood pressure, spinal and hearing screenings; body-fat analysis and chair massages. At both events, information on Medicare and numerous other programs, services and senior issues will be available.

The fairs are hosted by state Sen. John Millner of Carol Stream. Call his Bloomingdale office at (630) 351-9340.

Casino trip to raise funds for township

The Schaumburg Township Human Services Fund is holding a fundraiser to help support Schaumburg Township services at the Ameristar Casino in East Chicago, Ind., Monday, June 29.

Bus departs Schaumburg Township at 9:30 a.m. The cost for the fundraiser to the Ameristar Casino is $25, which includes round trip transportation, five hours of gaming action and an all-you-can-eat buffet.
