Moth spraying in LITH
The village of Lake in the Hills will conduct a second round of aerial spraying for gypsy moths on Thursday, June 4, or Friday, June 5, weather permitting. The first round took place during the week of May 26, but inclement weather delayed the second application. The spraying generally begins in the early morning, but can occur at anytime during the day if the wind is light and there is no rain in the immediate forecast. Specially-equipped helicopters fly low over areas being treated, spraying a biological insecticide that is not considered harmful to humans, pets or other wild species.
District 300 won't hire Munson
Community Unit District 300 will not hire former state Rep. Ruth Munson as a Springfield lobbyist. District officials considered hiring the former legislator to lobby state lawmakers for capital funding, federal stimulus money and the passage of a bill exempting the district from some accessibility requirements. But the bill exempting the district passed last week, and the legislative session officially ended on May 31. "The board didn't feel it had been properly vetted," board President Joe Stevens said. "Right now, there are no discussions going on."
Trail closed for bridge work
A section of the Fox River Trail in Carpentersville will remain closed this week, likely until Friday, due to nearby construction work. The Kane County Forest Preserve District will be installing bridge abutments for a bridge to be set during the summer. The work will force the temporary closure of the trail from the entrance road of Fox River Shores Forest Preserve north to Angelina Place. Posted signs will alert trail users to the closure. There will be no access through the section of trail, nor will there be an alternate route during that time because of traffic and limited shoulder space on Williams Road.
