District 300 boosts staff training

Training for teachers at the three high schools in Community Unit District 300 will more than double under a staff training plan approved by the school board this week. The plan will increase the number of hours the high schools spend on teacher development each year from 13.5 to 30. High school principals hope the plan will improve coordination across the high schools among teachers in the same discipline. The proposal caused a stir last month when board member Monica Clark said the plan was an excuse for teachers to spend less time teaching. Clark was the only board member to vote against the proposal, which passed with no discussion.
