St. Edward wins regional IHSA soccer opener

Jessica Stasinski scored 2 goals as St. Edward (6-8-2) opened the IHSA girls soccer postseason Wednesday with a 6-1 win over Woodlands Academy in the Class 1A Westminster Christian regional.

The Green Wave will take on Willows Academy at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.

Colleen Kerger, Jordyn Madden, Brittany Brozek and Courtney Klein each added goals for St. Edward and Taylor Hunsberger made 2 saves in goal.

Westminster Christian lost to Genoa-Kingston 2-1 in the other quarterfinal Wednesday. Genoa will now face Elgin Academy at 1 p.m. Saturday.
