Dist. 304 records disposal

The temporary files for all students in the Geneva High School Class of 2003 will be destroyed this week. Temporary records are maintained for five years following graduation, transfer, or permanent withdrawal from a school district, at which point they can be destroyed. Students who wish to pick up their file must do so in person and present photo identification. Records can be picked up at the counseling and advising office. Call registrar Debbie Hanson at (630) 463-3830, ext. 3838.

IMSA honored

Aurora's Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy recently was named one of 18 finalists for the Intel Schools of Distinction and has been selected as one of three U.S. schools to receive award packages valued at more than $100,000 for science excellence. This is in addition to $2,500 awards that already have gone to each of the 18 finalist schools from the Intel Foundation. IMSA is one of six schools selected to be honored for extraordinary commitment to educational excellence and innovation.

U-46 may issue tax warrants

In coming weeks, Elgin Area School District U-46 board members may vote on several proposals to replenish district coffers to pay employees, operate and repair buildings and pay costs on pending lawsuits. Current cash reserves - which were $34.4 million as of April 30 - are expected to last the district only through the first week of June, Chief Financial Officer John Prince said. Board members heard they may need to vote next month on a resolution authorizing the district to issue tax anticipation warrants if state aid payments and property tax revenue continue to lag behind schedule. Tax anticipation warrants work like short-term loans to help districts cover expenses while waiting on revenue sources.
