St. Edward closed, all events canceled

St. Edward High School in Elgin has canceled all athletic events for Friday and officials have closed the school due to a student reporting symptoms consistent with the swine flu.

"It's a precautionary measure right now," said St. Edward athletic director P.J. White Thursday night. "It's a suspected case. The student went to the doctor but nothing has been confirmed yet."

White said he wasn't 100 percent sure about the status of Saturday's events but suspected they would be canceled as well.

"As far as I know right now we probably won't be able to play Saturday either," White said. "That's up in the air right now but I'm assuming the whole weekend will be called off."
