Volunteerism celebrated:
Forty years of volunteer service will be celebrated 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, when the Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago and Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Community Education host a volunteer celebration and fundraising concert. The fest will be headlined by the Neverly Brothers, who will perform at 2:45 p.m., and will include a raffle, children and family activities and food. Concert tickets are $20. Have ice cream, help fire dept.:
The Des Plaines Professional Firefighters Local 4211 will participate in a national fundraiser at two area Baskin & Robbins ice cream stores from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at 782 Oakton St. and 1552 Rand Road. Fire department personnel and their families will be scooping 31-cent ice creams and provide fire prevention education. Visitors will also be able to climb on a fire engine. The firefighters union will accept donations for the union's Charity Committee, which supports city events.
Make Diaper Day donations:
Hanover Township will accept packages of new diapers from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, to recognize Diaper Day. Infant, toddler and adult diapers are welcome. Donations will be given to the Diaper Bank of Northwest Cook and DuPage Counties, which will distribute them to local service providers. Drop off donations at the township office, 250 S. Shelter seeks 'taggers':
Shelter Inc. is seeking volunteers to serve as "taggers" at its 18th annual Shelter-A-Child Tag Days Mother's Day weekend, May 8 to 10 at local stores, intersections and Metra stations in the Northwest suburbs. Approximately 200 taggers are needed for two-hour shifts. Taggers are needed from 6-8 a.m. Friday at the Metra Station in Arlington Heights, Arlington Park, Barrington, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect and Palatine. Volunteers are needed at intersections and in front of Dominick's, Jewel-Osco, and Wal-Mart stores Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Buffalo Grove, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Glenview, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Streamwood and Wheeling. Proceeds benefit Arlington Heights-based Shelter, a nonprofit child welfare agency that provides emergency and longer-term care for children.
