Moving boulders not popular, but correct

I recently had to make a very unpopular but correct decision in regards to the unincorporated area of Schaumburg Township right of way road hazards.

There are about 700 homes in that area and about 100 homes had some type of hazard including large rocks, boulders and even a snowmobile trailer located right off the road along side the street.

I realize it is a one in a million chance someone can get injured by hitting these obstructions - for example, a bike rider losing grip of their handle, hitting rocks, falling and getting injured or a motorist losing control for a short period hitting the boulder and getting injured.

Therefore I took action and removed the obstructions after seeking advice from a legal expert. We notified the residents as our crew moved them and I instructed our crew to be community friendly helping them relocate the obstructions. It is not up to me to determine what size rock or boulder can cause injury, I just know the width of the right of way that is township property.

I am so sorry for the inconvenience but if someone was injured and sued the township, every taxpayer of Schaumburg Township would have to foot the expense. I realize I was in a no-win situation, but I have to continue to do the best I can with no concern for political reasons. If I am elected out of office for this clean up, I can continue to sleep good nightly knowing it was the right decision.

Please understand this was not an easy decision because I know a "man's" home is his castle, but how would I answer to the whole township if someone did get injured knowing what I know.
