Woman indicted in theft:
A 42-year-old Villa Park woman is facing theft and forgery charges on suspicion she stole a $725.40 fine paid to the Illinois Tollway Authority, court records released Wednesday revealed. Renee A. Carmickle is accused of doctoring, then cashing a money order while she worked sorting mail in the authority's consolidated call center in Lisle. A contractual company, TransCore, had hired Carmickle through a temp agency. A DuPage County judge issued a warrant for her arrest Tuesday after a grand jury indictment.
Special Olympics events:
Authorities are taking part in Tip a Cop to benefit the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. This Saturday, from noon until 8 p.m., off-duty DuPage County sheriff's deputies will be at the Red Robin restaurant, 51 Wheaton Town Square, Wheaton. Bloomingdale police also are participating from noon to 8 p.m. at the Red Robin at 905 Stratford Square Mall, Bloomingdale. Police will join the restaurant staff waiting tables to collect tips in the annual fundraising event. Torch Run T-shirts and hats will be sold, along with raffle tickets for prizes. Park offers summer savings:
For those looking to have fun and save money this summer, Fox Valley Park District is offering discount rates on season passes to Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center, Splash Country Water Park and Blackberry Farm through April 30. Aquatic passes between now and the end of April are $50 for children 13 and older, $45 for children between the ages of 2 and 12, and $30 for twilight passes. A complimentary friend pass is included with each purchase and pass holders are entitled to receive 10 percent off birthday party celebrations at either water park. Celebrating bicentennial:
In honor of Law Day 2009 and the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, the DuPage County Bar Association today will rededicate an original Lincoln legal document. The bar association bought the document in 1979. It contains Lincoln's signature in which he affirms his representation in the civil case Davis v. Allen, out of the Southern District Court. A rededication ceremony will be held at noon on the DuPage County courthouse's third floor, in Wheaton.
