Donate dresses for prom nights

My Sister's Dress Project is hosting dress drives now through Friday, April 10 to collect formal shoes, jewelry, shawls and gowns in new or gently used condition to help financially challenged young women attend prom. The following local businesses will accept dress and accessory donations during their own business hours: American Community Bank in Crystal Lake, McHenry and Woodstock; Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County in McHenry and Star 105 in Crystal Lake. With the average price of attending high school prom climbing to nearly $500, many teenagers would be unable to attend prom without this opportunity to purchase a dress for $20. All proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County. The dress sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18 in the gymnasium at McHenry County College, 8900 S. Route 14 in Crystal Lake. For details, or to volunteer, call (815) 383-3855 or e-mail mysistersdress@gmail.com.
