Involvement, experience are musts in Mundelein Dist. 120
In Mundelein High School District 120, five candidates are seeking four seats on the board of education. Incumbents Vicky Kennedy, Edwin Specht and Gerry Munley know their stuff and have set the district on course to meet long-term needs. With relatively new administrators in the district, we like the consistency of maintaining these three able incumbents. We endorse Kennedy, Specht and Munley.
For the fourth seat, it's between retired teacher Robert E. Smith and educator Bryan Wilcox. Wilcox has a wealth of experience in the classroom and school administrations and would make a fine school board member. His family has deep roots in the community. But he lacks civic involvement and has not attended a lot of meetings, two things we look for when assessing candidates. Smith, a frequent meeting attendee, is well-versed and knows the key issues related to the district's building needs. As a retiree, we also like that he might help better represent the perspective of residents of Mundelein's retirement communities. We endorse Smith.
