Cantigny notes
Cantigny will present the following programs at 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton:
Admission for most programs is free; however, there is a parking fee. The fee is $7 Tuesdays through Fridays, $8 Saturday and Sunday. A twilight fee after 4 p.m. is $4 Tuesday through Friday and $5 Saturday and Sunday. The annual parking pass for one year is $55, with an additional one for $7.
A tram service is available during regular hours from 9 a.m. to sunset, leaving from the visitors center kiosk.
Reservations are required for most programs.
Veterans Day: Free parking is available all day to celebrate Veterans Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Botanical designs: An artificial pumpkin cornucopia will be created with live flowers at 1:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the greenhouse on Shaffner Road, south of Roosevelt Road, Wheaton. The arrangement can be extended to Thanksgiving with tips from Beth Whittington, Cantigny floral designer. The fee is $50. Reservations are suggested by calling (630) 668-5161.
Call for tickets: The Canterbury Carolers will host a holiday concert from 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at Mansion Freedom Hall, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. Music will include holiday carols written before 1870. Seating is limited. To enter your name in the seat lottery, call (630) 668-5161 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday and Nov. 16. The parking fee applies.
Poinsettias: Tours of the greenhouse and its 3,000 poinsettias is planned at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17. The event is free.
Harvest centerpiece: Participants will create a centerpiece of fall flowers, leaves, pumpkins and berries with Joyce Grattoni at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in the greenhouse. The arrangement includes a candle and hurricane glass. Reservations are suggested. The fee is $40.
Snow globes: Children ages 5 to 8 and an adult will create up to three snow globes at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the greenhouse. Reservations are suggested. The fee is $15.
Holiday designs: Participants may create either an evergreen wreath or a reindeer with fresh evergreens during the workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 24 at the greenhouse. Jill Weiss, Cantigny grower, will supply the materials. The wreath will take about two hours and costs $45. The reindeer may take up to four hours and the fee is $60. Those attending may bring a bag lunch and a hand pruner. Reservations are suggested by calling (630) 668-5161.
Legos: A Lego train show is planned from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 in the visitors center. The creations include trains, skyscrapers and Harry Potter. The parking fee applies.
Create 3 trees: Cantigny Park will offer its greenhouse botanical designs to create a trio of Christmas trees at 1:30 or 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at the greenhouse on Shaffner Road, south of Roosevelt Road, Wheaton. The class will be led by Beth Whittington, a Cantigny floral designer. The fee is $60. To make reservations, call (630) 668-5161.
Gift-wrapped packages: A floral box gift-wrapping class will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at Cantigny Park greenhouse on Shaffner Road, south of Roosevelt Road, Wheaton.
