Family Trips … On the Bus We Go: Parents, grab your kids and hop on the Lake in the Hills Park and Recreation Departments mini bus to enjoy Harvestfest at Apple Holler Farm in Racine, Wis., on Oct. 5. Since District 158 and 47 have kindly given kids the day off, what better way to celebrate?
Whether you enjoy pony rides or pedal cart rides, picking apples or eating hot apple pie, there is something fun for everyone at Harvestfest. Check out www.appleholler.com for all the exciting things your family can enjoy.
This bus trip leaves from Village Hall at 9 a.m. sharp on Oct. 5, and returns at approximately 4 p.m. Resident rate is $7; nonresident rate is $9. Fee includes transportation only, come prepared for admission fees, snacks and souvenirs.
For youth
Tater Tot Playdates: Rain, rain, go away or we'll just stay inside to play.
Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department to connect with other moms, dads and caregivers while your little ones make friends and have fun playing. Gym mats and limited toys will be available. Feel free to bring your child's favorite toy.
Playtime is 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 11 and 25 in the Multipurpose room for ages birth to 5. Fee is $2/child for both residents and nonresidents.
Teen Trip to Great America Fright Fest: Calling all teens in sixth through ninth grades, grab your friends for spine-tingling fun at the 17 annual Fright Fest. Thousands of props, decorations and special effects will be used during this 'spooktacular' event.
Spend your day off school on Oct 8 enjoying the thrills and chills of Fright Fest. Registration deadline is Friday.
Fee is $47 for residents and $57 for nonresidents. Fee includes ticket admission, transportation and chaperones.
Group departs from Village Hall at 9 a.m. sharp and returns at approximately 8 p.m.
Imagine Tomorrow computer class: Get ready to become a computer detective on a learning adventure to places such as Email Trail or Laptop Lagoon.
The Parks and Recreation Department of Lake in the Hills, along with Tech Adventures Inc., invites your child, ages 3 to 5, to learn computer and literacy skills and build self-confidence in a positive learning environment.
This class begins with an interactive video voice mail describing a new, fun-filled mission of the day. Children then move on to their own wireless laptops where they work on custom software designed for each mission.
Advancing at their pace, children proudly apply new technology skills to solve problems and accomplish their goals.
When class ends, children continue to enjoy their mission from home with our online reinforcement activities. No computer experience is necessary. Class meets from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 26 to Nov. 14 in the Village Hall Community Room. Resident fee is $135; nonresident fee is $145.
Brochure Art Contest: Attention artists ages 5 through 12.
The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department wants to feature your artistic creation in our Winter/Spring Brochure, maybe even on the cover.
Submit an original drawing/painting of your favorite winter or spring recreational activity on a white, 8½- by 11-inch piece of paper. Include your name, address, phone number and a brief description of the activity depicted in your picture.
Judges will select a winner and place the artwork on our Web site throughout the seasonal brochure.
Submissions will be accepted through Friday. Submitted artwork will not be returned.
Every Kid LOVES a Party: The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department invites you to join Ms. Deena on Oct. 5 to party Old MacDonald-style with a related easy-to-make craft, music and a story. Bring your imagination and be ready for some messy fun.
Class size is limited --register early.
Kids of all ages are welcome; adult participation is required. Bring a small snack to enjoy at our picnic in the village hall classroom. Program is either from 1:30 to 2:30 or 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Resident rate is $10 per parent/child and $7 for each additional child. Nonresident rate is $12 per parent/child and $8 each additional child.
For adults
Football Widows Club: Ladies, this is one time you'll gladly relinquish the remote. Let your significant other, disguised as a couch potato, hang out at home watching the game while you and your friends have a girls' day out.
The Parks and Recreation Department of Lake in the Hills has fueled up the bus for a day of serious fun at the Galena Country Fair. Browse the arts & crafts tables, visit the farmer's market, pursue your passion for fine arts, or just sit back and relax to the live entertainment while enjoying some great food
The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. sharp on Oct. 7 from the Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate. The group will return around 6 p.m.
