DuPage judge speaks on child protection and juvenile justice
Judge Chantelle Porter of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court addressed “Child Protection and Juvenile Justice in DuPage County” on Wednesday, Nov. 5, before members of the AAUW Elmhurst Area Branch at the Elmhurst Public Library.
Porter, the first African American woman judge in DuPage County, handles all matters of child protection and juvenile justice. Porter, who grew up in Hanover Park, shared her experiences growing up in a white community and her experiences with troubled youth.
Beyond the courtroom, Porter mentors young attorneys, contributes to legal education initiatives, and advocates for reform in the juvenile justice system.
AAUW supports gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. The Elmhurst Branch serves several communities including Elmhurst, Addison, Bensenville, Wood Dale, Villa Park, Oak Brook, and Oakbrook Terrace.
