Dining out: A pair of restaurant closings, the state’s first drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A and a 20th anniversary
Closings
A pair of Fox Valley restaurants announced closings this week.
Village Tavern & Grill in South Elgin announced on their social media channels that it would close following service on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
“To all our incredible guests: Thank you for your loyalty, laughter, and countless memories,” the restaurant posted on Facebook. “You’ve made this place more than just a business — you made it a community. We are truly grateful for every visit, every conversation, and every moment shared.”
Locations in Schaumburg and Carol Stream will remain open.
A little further north up Randall Road, Tap House Grill in Algonquin Commons permanently closed its doors Tuesday.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that we have permanently closed Tap House Algonquin,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page. “We loved our time here and being a part of the community. We truly appreciate all of the loyalty and memories.”
The American pub-style franchise restaurant and bar has seen locations close in Oswego, Plainfield and St. Charles in the past year. Locations in Palatine and Lemont remain open.
Drive through chikin
A new Chick-fil-A opening Thursday, Sept. 4, will be Naperville’s second, but the first in the state without a dining room.
The drive-thru and walk-up only location at 3320 S. Illinois Route 59 will serve guests from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The location will also offer third-party delivery and Mobile Thru using the company’s app.
A release from the company said the new style of restaurant is designed for speed and efficiency. Though there’s no indoor dining room, the restaurant offers outdoor patio seating.
Happy 20th
Di Pescara is celebrating 20 years of serving seafood, sushi and steaks in Northbrook this September with a monthlong series of special menus and promotions to thank guests and the community.
A throwback menu brings back some old favorites, including Crunchy Shrimp Pescara from the restaurant’s opening menu, as well as veal chop Parmesan, miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, cherry pie and more. Each is available for a limited time. Check out the menu on their website.
They’re also offering a $20, two-course lunch special, supper club specials featuring comfort food with a twist (three courses for $32.95), a Ravinia picnic package and a weekday happy hour from 3-5:30 p.m. in the bar and lounge.
Back to school
With the kids back in classes, Fry the Coop is doing its own take on walking tacos, a staple of school lunches and concession stands.
The Fry the Coop walking taco includes the restaurant’s signature chicken tenders, sweet and sour pickles, coleslaw and Coop sauce tossed together in a 2.75-ounce bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. It’s $6.99 and is available in September at all 10 locations.
Are you pumped for pumpkin?
It’s already pumpkin spice latte season at Starbucks, and now 7 Brew is ready for fall with pumpkin pie drinks.
Drink highlights include the Pumpkin Blondie, featuring caramel, vanilla and pumpkin pie (sugar-free available); the Pumpkin Roll Shake, made with brown sugar cinnamon, white chocolate and pumpkin pie; and the Magic Pumpkin, a seasonal twist on the Smooth 7.
Get happy
Touché French Creole in downtown Aurora has expanded its hours and launched a new happy hour. Guests can now enjoy crafted cocktails and small bites from 3-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the restaurant at 6 N. River St.
Friday night lights
High school football is back, and so is a BOGO burrito offer from Guzman y Gomez.
To celebrate Friday night lights, GYG locations in Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Des Plaines, Evanston, Naperville and Schaumburg will be offering buy one get one free burritos or bowls with chicken or vegetable fillings from 4-11 p.m. Fridays. Show a school ID or wear your team’s gear to grab the deal. The offer is good until Oct. 24.
