But as concerns over bird flu ripple across the country, Henny and her family are now accustomed to chasing away uninvited guests — the Canada geese and other migratory birds that like to gather on the golf course next door.

Following a cold and windy day, pockets of snow collected on Lake Zurich, leaving a striking pattern on the frozen water. The lake was originally named Cedar Lake but was renamed to Lake Zurich by Seth Paine, an early 1800s settler. The lake is private, but there are a few spaces for people to enjoy the water including Paulus Park along Rand Road, Breezewalk Park on N. Old Rand Road and the Lakefront Promenade along W. Main Street.
