Tangled Roots now open at Arboretum of South Barrington
Already a culinary draw, the Arboretum of South Barrington has added another restaurant to its tenant roster. Tangled Roots Craft Beer & Kitchen opened Jan. 22 in the southwest corner of the Arboretum, 100 W. Higgins Road. This is the fifth restaurant in the Tangled Roots chain. The others are in Vernon Hills, Glenview and Lockport.
Funeral home with crematorium near Bensenville gets OK from DuPage County Board
DuPage County Board members have backed plans for a funeral home and crematorium to be built along Route 83 near Bensenville despite objections from village officials. The facility proposed by Mokshdham Cremation Inc., a nonprofit group, would specialize in Hindu services but would be open to all faiths. The nonprofit also would offer low-cost cremation services, said Rashmi Patel, president of the organization.
Evolving plan for prime downtown Libertyville property includes 91-unit apartment building
A recommendation regarding plans for a proposed 91-unit apartment building near Libertyville’s downtown Metra station has been delayed to allow developers to address parking and other issues. A public hearing on the proposed redevelopment of the L-shaped Suydam property, 725-747 N. Milwaukee Ave. and 126-140 Lake St., was continued to March 31 at village hall.
Guzman y Gomez quick-serve restaurant chain continues expansion with proposed Vernon Hills location
A growing Mexican restaurant chain founded in Australia continues its advance in the Chicago area with a proposed drive-through location in Vernon Hills. Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen has received a nonbinding favorable reception from village leaders to pursue a plan to demolish an existing building on an outlot in the Rivertree Court shopping center. The chain already has locations in Naperville, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, Buffalo Grove and Deerfield.
‘A cool, unique concept’: Galaxy Hot Pot opening soon in downtown Des Plaines
An Asian-style restaurant offering an unusual dining concept could open as soon as this week in downtown Des Plaines, city officials say. Galaxy Hot Pot & Grill, 1417 Ellinwood St., recently got its liquor license. The restaurant is on the ground floor of the Welkin Apartments building, which is on Ellinwood at Graceland Avenue.
Huntley aims to open new retail incubators in time for 2025 holiday season
Huntley is planning to open its new business incubator shops in time for the 2025 holiday retail season. The Shops on Main incubator is expected to kick off with a winter market starting Nov. 1 and stay open through Dec. 21. Stores will reopen May 1, 2026, and stay open through Dec. 20, 2026, for the main season.
