There are 28 gardens and four natural areas within the 385 acres of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Join horticulturists for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Japanese Garden area. Northbrook Garden Club — 'Soft Landings': 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Ave., Northbrook. The Northbrook Garden Club presents “Soft Landings” by Eileen Davis. Lombard Garden Club — Curative Powers of Tea: 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, at Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard. Marcy Lautanen-Raleigh. owner of Backyard Patch Herbs, will speak on “The Curative Powers of Tea.” Lautanen-Raleigh has been growing and using herbs for more than 20 years. She will discuss the difference between black tea and herb tea, what herbs make good tea, how to formulate your own teas and the medicinal properties of various plants. The meeting will feature speaker Mary Cantrell, master designer at the Lake Zurich Florist Shop. Cantrell describes her design philosophy as “rich, romantic and elegant with a dash of sophisticated flair.” Cantrell loves designing wedding florals and will give tips as she works. Garden Club of Inverness Luncheon: On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Garden Club of Inverness will be hosting its annual holiday luncheon at Medinah Country Club with the theme “Sleigh Bells Ring.” The event will feature a silent auction, Christmas crafts, and a raffle in addition to a presentation on floral arrangements for the holidays.
