West Suburban Community Pantry names new CEO

West Suburban Community Pantry in Woodridge has appointed a local leader with a lengthy background in nonprofit food bank leadership as its new CEO.

The board announced the selection of Maeven Sipes who will assume the post in October. Sipes comes to the nonprofit from Northern Illinois Food Bank where she has worked since 2010, first leading the individual giving team before taking on the role of vice president of philanthropy in 2016. She was responsible for raising $25 million annually in operating support for the food bank. Previously, she worked at the multi-state nonprofit organization Adoption Arc where she coordinated the international adoptions of over 70 children.

Over the past year, it has served 43% more households in DuPage and Will counties compared to the previous year. The surge underscores a growing need locally and the positive impact West Suburban Community Pantry makes in the local community.

The board recognized that Sipes’ leadership, fundraising expertise, and sharp strategic focus will help it navigate continued growth and success.

"Maeven’s expertise in hunger relief and her proven leadership make her an excellent fit for the Pantry,“ said Mary Hutchinson, board chair. ”As we serve record numbers of neighbors and advance our vision of a hunger-free community, we’re confident she will build on our strong history while navigating ongoing economic and health challenges facing our community.“

Sipes has a bachelor of science from Purdue University and a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She served on the West Suburban Philanthropic Network board of directors from 2013-22 and is a mother and Girl Scout leader. She and her husband live in Wheaton, where they are raising their two young children.

“I am looking forward to joining the incredible team at West Suburban Community Pantry at this critical time,” Sipes said. “The pantry has grown rapidly in recent years, serving more meals and neighbors than ever before, and I want to work with the pantry board and the community to ensure that the pantry continues its strategic growth, and our neighbors get the resources they need.”
