‘Time for a transformation’: How Stratford Square Mall would become ‘The Grove’

Lakeside restaurants. Illuminated fountain towers. A meandering boardwalk. An oval-shaped, trellis-topped lawn for events, yoga or ice skating. The site of the defunct Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale is envisioned as “The Grove,” a world away from big department stores and everything else you associate with bunker-like shopping centers. The conceptual redevelopment plan is ambitious: Renderings show new apartments, retail and commercial space oriented toward a central lake.

‘Bittersweet for us’: Dave’s Specialty Foods in Mount Prospect looking for a buyer

A mainstay of downtown Mount Prospect is up for sale, but it’s not going away yet. Manager Maggie Sinz confirmed that Dave’s Specialty Foods, 105 W. Prospect Ave., is looking for a buyer. Owner Dave Esau also announced the sale on YouTube.

Massive trucking yard opening on shuttered landfill

A truck yard with parking for more than 1,000 semis will be opening in West Dundee in late October. The 30-acre yard is located at 70 Airport Road, near I-90. It is one of four new yards recently announced by Outpost, a Texas-based company with more than 20 locations in the United States.

Casa Tequilas brings real flavors of Mexico to Elgin

A new Elgin Mexican restaurant hopes to be a grand slam with local diners. Casa Tequilas has taken over the space most recently occupied by Denny’s at 1120 S. Randall Road. Owner Luis Pacheco says the concept features authentic Mexican food like his mother made for his family.

Remodeled Hanover Park Caputo’s Fresh Market had a grand reopening Saturday

Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets in Hanover Park showed off its more than $3 million remodel during its grand reopening celebration Saturday. The location, which opened in 1996, has been closed since last year in an effort to bring it up to the standards of its other stores, CEO Robertino Presta said.

Mothers’ Milk Bank of Western Great Lakes opens new facility

Mothers’ Milk Bank of Western Great Lakes (Milk Bank WGL), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing lifesaving donor human milk to infants in need, is relocating and expanding to a new facility at 560 Bonnie Lane, Elk Grove Village, starting Oct. 7. The 15,000-square-foot facility, in the heart of the nation’s largest industrial park, will allow for increased milk donation capacity and a state-of-the-art lab to process thousands of ounces of milk daily.
