‘Old-school downtown USA’: Antioch Theatre celebrating 100 years and counting

Over the past century, the Antioch Theatre has been down but never out as a simple fixture of life and entertainment in a small town. “It’s the old-school, downtown USA,” says Michael Sheedy, a relative newcomer to Antioch and most recent owner of the long-standing business. “It’s really a family-centric community.” Enough so that the theater at 378 Lake St., has carried on as the longest continuously operating business in town, under the same name and in the same location.

‘A lasting impact’: Schaumburg Business Association President Lisa Gilbert heads to Illinois Restaurant Association

Lisa Gilbert, the fifth president of the 23-year-old Schaumburg Business Association, is leaving the organization for a membership position with the Chicago-based Illinois Restaurant Association. She joined the SBA 11 years ago in a similar membership role before succeeding Kaili Harding as president in 2018.

S&C Electric opens 275,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Palatine

Palatine recently celebrated the arrival of a world-class manufacturing site, when S&C Electric Co. opened its doors to the public. The company has been in business since 1911, operating in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Now the firm has expanded into a second location in Palatine with a new 275,000-square-foot facility at 200 Sellstrom Drive.

Burlington Stores opens new Arlington Heights location Friday

Burlington Stores opened its new store in Arlington Heights with a ribbon cutting Friday. The national discount retailer moved into a 31,515-square-foot big box at 601 E. Palatine Road in the Town & Country Shopping Center. The old store was located at 30 W. Rand Road in the Arlington Plaza shopping center.

Des Plaines officials paving way for food trucks

With food trucks increasingly popular, Des Plaines officials are taking steps to make it easier for mobile kitchens to operate in town. City council members last week informally endorsed a proposal to eliminate a ban on trucks that serve freshly prepared food. It’s now up to administrators to draft a set of rules for a proposed pilot program; the council then would need to approve those rules.

Sweetchilango brings authentic Mexican flavors to Wheaton

A new downtown Wheaton Mexican restaurant is bringing a serious approach to casual food. Sweetchilango is the first fast-casual concept from the Bien Trucha Group, but Chief Business Officer Julio Cano says you shouldn’t let the informal setting fool you into thinking this is fast food.
