Neighbors in the News: Palatine library names new assistant director

Susan Conner was promoted to assistant director of the Palatine Public Library District, after the position was vacated by Melissa Gardner, who was promoted to executive director.

Conner, who has been on the library's staff for 18 years in various positions, has been serving the library as technology manager for the past eight years.

Conner holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Alabama. She currently serves as a board member in the Library Administrators Council of Northern Illinois’ Technology Section and is on the 2024 Illinois Library Association's Conference Program committee.

“I’m excited and honored to move into this role and focus on our new strategic plan. We have an exceptional team and a wonderful community,” said Conner.

William Doty, a 2021 graduate of Rolling Meadows High School received the first Thomas A. Manning Memorial Scholarship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the 2024 History Awards Ceremony held April 20 in Urbana.

A James Scholar honors student, Doty has been on the dean’s list all of his five semesters at the university. He was inducted into the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, in the spring of 2022, and is currently the publication director of the Undergraduate History Journal. He is also a member of the history department’s Undergraduate Studies committee and has earned the university’s Foreign Language and Area Study Fellowship in Russian.

Doty is the son of Brad and Lisa Doty of Arlington Heights.

The Round Table of Launderers and Dry Cleaners selected Tom Zengeler, president of Zengeler Cleaners, as chairman.

Every year, the Round Table of Launderers and Dry Cleaners convenes to address mutual industry concerns along with an open exchange of ideas. Nineteen members recently gathered in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, for the 83rd annual meeting of the organization.

Responsibilities of the incoming chairman include organizing the following year’s conference, including site selection, activities, entertainment and setting the agenda for the next conference.

“I am extremely honored to lead the Round Table in the coming year,” said Zengeler. “Zengeler Cleaners has benefited tremendously from our 20-plus year membership in the Round Table, thanks to the open exchange of strategic initiatives and best practices in the industry … ”

Zengeler Cleaners has locations in Northbrook, Deerfield, Northfield, Hubbard Woods, Long Grove and Libertyville.

Highland Park resident Joe Giampa was named general manager in the Lake County franchise office of Paul Davis Restoration of Southeast and Fox Valley, Wisconsin and Waukegan, a leading provider of fire and water damage cleanup, restoration and remodeling services.

Giampa, who has 25 years of real estate and construction industry experience, will be responsible for overseeing staff in production, project management, estimating, cleaning and operations.

Giampa, a licensed real estate broker and a member of the National Association of Realtors, is certified from The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification as a Water Restoration Technician, and in Applied Structural Drying along with fire, smoke, and odor damage restoration. He is also a certified lead paint and mold remediation technician.
