The first in DuPage: Gunshot detection system installed at Milton Township Building

Through the collaborative efforts of DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick and DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin, Milton Township was introduced to Mid Tech Security which provides the new EAGL Gunshot Detection System.

Our primary concern is always the safety and well-being of our residents, which is why we have become the first township within Illinois to install this system.

The installation took place Tuesday, Oct. 3, and went live Thursday, Oct. 12.

The newly installed gunshot detection system was developed by the U.S. Department of Energy. This system analyzes acoustic characteristics, energy levels, and waveforms using advanced algorithms.

As a result this system greatly reduces false alarms and allows for faster law enforcement reaction timing. This allows law enforcement to be notified and send a response within 4 seconds.

We were thankful to see the respected law enforcement agencies and elected officials from DuPage County Sheriff's office, the City of Wheaton, the Village of Glen Ellyn, and the Village of Carol Stream, and Milton Township who attended the information presentation Milton Township hosted on Oct. 12.

Gunshot detection systems also can be integrated seamlessly with existing access control, video surveillance systems, intercoms, and public address systems, creating an all-in-one solution.

All of the municipalities listed above will be notified in case of detection.

Overall, Milton Township is here to protect our residents in an ever-changing world.
