Brian Johnson Honored with Dedicated to Excellence Award

Brian Johnson, was recognized with the Dedicated to Excellence Award at the Des Plaines Park Board meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Brian Johnson has been part of the park district aquatic department for the past 13 years as a swim lesson instructor, swim lesson coordinator, and head coach for the Warriors Swim Team. Brian is a Maine West and University of Illinois graduate and current high school teacher in Waukegan. He is a former swim coach of the River Racers, performer (actor and singer), active member of his church community and avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Coach Johnson's dedication to the sport is measured in numbers. He assisted in growing the 9-swimmer team in 2015 to a 136 swimmer (championship winning) swim team. He is an amazing advocate for youth swimming in the Des Plaines community and continues to positively impact all our swimmers.

"Our experience with the Warriors Swim Team has been nothing short of amazing. Simone and Alex have grown into strong swimmers and eager competitors in a supportive and friendly environment. They have both fallen in love with the sport and while they have always loved the water, so much of that is due to the tremendous coaching and culture that has been created. Thank you so much," stated Brian Johnson.

The Dedicated to Excellence Award is presented to employees who have made a positive contribution to the Park District. Potential recipients are nominated by Park District staff members, and evaluated by the Employee Relations Committee and Administrators for creativity, responsibility, community relations, and customer service.
