Wheeling Park District Day of the Dead Family 5K Run/Walk

Over four hundred runners and walkers are expected to join together at Heritage Park on Sunday, October 29 to celebrate Day of the Dead.

Presented by the Wheeling Park District, the Day of the Day Family 5K will be a fun-filled event featuring a 5K run/walk with professional chip timing. Check-in will begin at 7 a.m., runners/walkers will have the opportunity to have their face painted between 7-7:45 a.m., with traditional "calavera" (skull) designs. The race/walk will begin at 8 a.m., by the Community Recreation Center (100 Community Blvd.) and will run through the scenic Heritage Park, cross over to the Meadowbrook neighborhood and continue through Carpenter Avenue and Chadwick Drive.

All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and will be treated to a post-race celebration featuring authentic Aztec Dancers, and performances from Chinelos Wheeling and Mariachi Sirenas. A post-race refreshment table will be provided by local favorite, Rise N Dine. El Famous Burrito will be serving authentic food, available for purchase to everyone at the post-race celebration.

Awards will be given to 1st place overall finishers in each age category. All are welcome to cheer on runners/walkers and join in on the post-race fun.
