Sinfonietta Bel Canto to host annual Voice Invitational Sept. 24

The Sinfonietta Bel Canto will feature some of the most talented young singers in the western suburbs at the annual Voice Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Selected singers from the 10th annual Sinfonietta Bel Canto Voice Competition will perform seven classic arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Georges Bizet, Marcello Giordani, Richard Strauss, and Franz Lehár.

The orchestra also will explore Adolf Weidig's "Three Episodes," Op. 38, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 5739 Dunham Road in Downers Grove.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, Weidig immigrated to the United States in 1892 and later became the dean of theory at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.

"Three Episodes" was originally premiered by both the Chicago Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic.

Tickets are $25, $22 for age 65 or older, or $8 for students. All concerts are general admission seating.
