Welcome to the show: ECC Arts Center opens the curtain on new season

The Elgin Community College Arts Center is gearing up for the fall 2023-24 season, filled with diverse performances for the college and community. The season starts with Jim Witter, back for the second time to perform songs from the 1960s and the music of Simon and Garfunkel.

His show, "Feelin' Groovy," will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. Tickets are $42.

"We are excited about the quality and diversity of performances in this year's Centerstage Series," said Tommy Hensel, senior director of performing arts. "We like to think that this lineup offers something for everyone. We're also hard at work finding creative ways to bring more engaging and interactive experiences for patrons in the lobby before performances and during intermissions."

October is packed with performances, starting with "Rising Tide: The Crossroads Project" featuring The Fry Street Quartet and Dr. Robert Davies.

Grounded in science, elevated by art, and igniting response, this project confronts the planet under siege. The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. Tickets are $37.

Next is Pat Hatzell's "The Wonder Bread Years," a fresh and funny salute to Americana from this former "Seinfeld" writer. It will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Tickets are $42.

The Arts Center will close out October with the internationally acclaimed female quartet Nobuntu. Known for inventive performances that range from Zimbabwean songs to Afro-jazz to gospel, they will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Tickets are $37.

In November, ECC Arts Center favorite, five-time Grammy Award-winning bassist Victor Wooten returns with his brothers for an electrifying live show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Tickets are $47.

The fall season closes with two holiday performances in December: Lisa Rock in "A Carpenters Christmas" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 ($42) and Angela Ingersoll in "The 12 Dames of Christmas" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 ($42).

Many shows offer a preshow dinner for $31 in the acclaimed Spartan Terrace, where patrons can experience the best of ECC's Culinary Arts & Hospitality Department.

The menu for the Sept. 16 dinner at 5 p.m. will be garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette, grilled and smoked boneless pork chop with BBQ demi-glace, twice-baked loaded potato, seasonal vegetables, and buttermilk pie.

On Nov. 11, it will be chef choice soup, braised boneless beef short rib, veal demi-glace and crispy onions, parsnip and potato puree, seasonal vegetables, and bread pudding.

The Dec. 2 menu will be garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette, mozzarella cheese and prosciutto topped chicken breast, sun-dried tomato and basil orzo, seasonal vegetables, and lemon curd tart.
