Hanover Township Mental Health Board Approves Funding at August Meeting

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $78,211.15 in funding at its Aug. 22 meeting at the Township Senior Center.

PADS of Elgin received $11,211.15 in Capital Funds to purchase new sleeping pads for guests. Located at 1730 Berkley St., the shelter is open 24 hours per day, seven days a week for people experiencing homelessness. Last year, PADS served 55 township residents.

The board awarded $17,000 in Staff Development and Capital Funds to Ecker Center to furnish new office space in the township and for personnel to complete required training on nonviolent crisis intervention.

Marklund received $25,000 in Capital Funding to assist with the kitchen renovation at its Wasmond Center & Day School. Located in the township at 1435 Summit St., Elgin, the center serves as a nursing and intermediate care facility for 61 children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Hopeful Beginnings was awarded $25,000 in Challenge Funds to provide mental health services to the growing number of residents they are seeing from Hanover Park and Streamwood. The Palatine based agency assists pregnant women and new mothers.

Challenge Funding is available for agencies providing new programs for residents of Hanover Township that align with the board's funding priorities. The maximum Challenge Funding award is $25,000. Applicants must also demonstrate additional support (financial or in-kind) for the program or project.

The next meeting of the Hanover Township Mental Health Board will take place at 6: 30 p.m. on Sept. 26, at the Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Hanover Township serves over 105,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
