Izaak Walton League presentation looks at bees, beekeeping

The Izaak Walton League of America will host a presentation on bees and beekeeping from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the historic Jefferson House, 1841 S. River Road, in Des Plaines.

Jim Hochstein, who keeps bees at the chapter, will present, and there will be an opportunity to see the bees and the equipment used.

"Recognizing the interest in bees, the Des Plaines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is happy to provide this opportunity," says Jennifer Conlon, a member of the league who is helping to organize the event.

"I think there is interest in bees from kids to adults, and as a former Girl Scout troop leader and Boy Scout merit badge counselor, I can see possibilities for Scouts getting some badgework done, too."

The event is free and open to the public; more information is available at www.iwla-desplaines.org. Those attending can register on the website, but drop-ins are welcome as well.
