Former Illinois Supreme Court Justice Bob Thomas gives commencement speech for Wheaton Academy

Wheaton Academy, a private Christian high school in West Chicago, held its 2023 commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 4, in the Edman Memorial Chapel at Wheaton College.

The commencement speaker was attorney Bob Thomas, who served two decades on the Illinois Supreme Court before retiring in 2020.

Thomas also spent over a decade in the NFL as a kicker including two stints with the Chicago Bears. He studied at Loyola University School of Law during the off-season and at night classes, passing the bar exam in 1981.

Thomas and his wife, Maggie, have three children who are Wheaton Academy alumni.

The school, founded in 1853, has a student body that draws from throughout the western suburbs including Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Naperville, Carol Stream, Aurora, Wayne, Elmhurst, St. Charles, Bartlett, and Geneva.
