Why walk 160 miles? Huntley Rotary Club learns about the El Camino trail

At the June 1 meeting, the Huntley Rotary Club listened to a presentation by Greg Alexander on the "Pilgrims on the Camino."

Alexander spent two weeks in northern Spain last year walking the Trail to El Camino Santiago.

He hiked 260 kilometers of the 500-kilometer trail with severe blisters from his third day, along with beautiful scenery along the Mediterranean Sea.

Alexander signed up to fulfill a dream and to reach a goal. He recommended watching "The Way," a Martin Sheen movie which shows some of the trail as he highlighted his experience for the Huntley Rotary Club.

Although the El Camino isn't for everyone, you can enjoy Running of the Elves 5K Run/Walk and kids' dash on Dec. 2, 2023, in downtown Huntley as part of Very Merry Huntley.

The club meets at 7:30 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month. The next program on June 15 will be "Scholarships for Africa" by Brett Weiss.
