Honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Schaumburg Library

Schaumburg Township District Library is set to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a variety of programs for all ages.

Join the Chicago Area Origami Society for a hands-on Origami Workshop for all ages on Saturday, May 20, at the Central Library.

Create your own origami cranes and bring them back to the library to be displayed for AAPI Heritage Month. All ages can return completed cranes to the Youth Desk at the Central Library or any branch location by Wednesday, May 24, to have it included in the special crane display.

In the latest Illinois Libraries Present program, Queer Eye and Getting Curious star and ice skating superfan Jonathan Van Ness talks with his idol, Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi. They'll chat figure skating, fabulous style, and whatever else comes up.

Join this online program Wednesday, May 17. (Schaumburg Library is a founding member of Illinois Libraries Present, a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events.)

Dr. Ribhi Salhi from Harper College will talk about how China and Iran's different foreign policy goals are playing out on the world stage in an online program on Tuesday, May 2.

David Crandall from Theatre Nohgaku will talk about Noh, traditional Japanese theater, in an online program Tuesday, May 9. Join him to learn about the sounds, sights and meanings behind a live Noh performance.

Dalit activist Thenmmozhi Soundararajan will talk about how the Indian caste system still has power in the U.S., and what we can do about it, in an online program Thursday, May 11.

Adults can have some crafting fun making Japanese carp kites at the Hoffman Estates Branch on Tuesdays, May 16 and 30.

Children ages 5-8 can join the library to read aloud, discuss and complete activities based on "Eyes that Kiss in the Corners" by Joanna Ho at the Central Library Thursday, May 18.

Children ages 6-9 can learn about artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman on Monday, May 22. You'll learn how she uses food and media in her work, then make your own Chila-inspired art.

Schaumburg Township District Library's Central Library is at 130 S. Roselle Road, in Schaumburg, and the Hoffman Estates Branch is at 1550 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates.

For online programs, after registering, you'll receive a link to join the program about one hour before the program begins.
