Week of the Young Child means lot of learning and fun for you and your little one at Schaumburg Library

Schaumburg Township District Library is set to celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 3-7, 2023, with programs for children five and under and their caregivers.

The Week of the Young Child was established in 1971 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children as a way to recognize how the early childhood years lay the foundation for children's success in school and throughout life. This year, Schaumburg Library is celebrating this special week with programs for little ones ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Kick the week off with a lively musical adventure full of singing, dancing and exploring musical instruments. Music Monday, for ages 0-5 with a caregiver, will be held Monday, April 3, 10:30-11 a.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library's Hoffman Estates Branch (located at 1550 Hassell Rd. in Hoffman Estates) or 6:30-7 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library's Hanover Park Branch (located at 1266 Irving Park Rd. in Hanover Park).

Next, try different foods while learning about their regions of origin and making new memories. You'll have a chance to share about favorite foods, read books about cooking together and enjoy learning about cultures through international cuisines. Tasty Tuesday, for ages 3-5 with a caregiver, will be held Tuesday, April 4, 1-2 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library's Central Library (located at 130 S. Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg). Registration is required for this program.

Then, join in cooperative games, group challenges and other ways to create and collaborate. When children build together, they develop teamwork and social skills. Next, let your child's imagination run wild exploring with a variety of art styles and mediums. Artsy Thursday will be held Thursday, April 6, 1-2:30 p.m. at Schaumburg Township District Library's Central Library.

Finally, wrap up Week of the Young Child with a storytime and self-guided activities that celebrate children's first teachers: their families!
