Crystal Lake church youth to perform 'The Rockslinger and His Greatest Hits' March 12

On Sunday, March 12, the First Congregational Church's youth and children's choirs will present "The Rockslinger and His Greatest Hit" at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services at the church, 461 Pierson St. in Crystal Lake. The production will feature a 16-member cast and the third- to eighth-grade Chancel and Carol Choirs.

Written by Tom Long and Allen Pote, this fun rendition of the famous story begins three thousand years ago when a shepherd boy, David (Abby Turner), faces an overwhelming enemy on a battlefield. The enemy's secret weapon was Goliath of Gath (Samuel Fistler), who sends his soldiers (Pearl Jeffries, Lucy Moritz, Charlotte Martin, Claire Martin and Maddy Kamp) to taunt the Israelite army. David Denlinger is the Commander of the Israelite Army, Noah Prather and Briggs Gesler are the sentries and Greta Hay and Matthew Kyrouac are soldiers in the Israellite Army. Cameron Hay plays David's brother, Eliab. Joaquin Ochoa plays King Saul and Mary Jeffries plays Saul's daughter, Michal. Armed with only a sling and a courageous faith in God, David faces his enemy. The message, 30 centuries later, is still clear: Though we may tremble in our weakness, there is no darkness that God cannot overcome.

Ann Tucker, director of music, directs the cast and the Chancel and Carol Choirs. Danielle Cairoli will accompany. There will be no Sunday school classes so all children may attend church with their parents to enjoy the wonderful presentation in drama and song. Childcare will be available for infants and toddlers. Visitors are always welcome to any church activity. First Congregational Church is fully accessible.
