Spring Into Sports with the Northbrook Park District

Hit the fields this Spring with fun and dynamic youth leagues for Soccer and Lacrosse at the Northbrook Park District! Northbrook Park District's spring sports season is starting soon, with leagues and activities designed to keep youth active and engaged through these classic and increasingly popular sports.

As a young athlete with the Northbrook Park District, the emphasis is on the development of the child as an individual and an athlete, rather than the competitive aspect of winning. The program strives to provide a fun and safe atmosphere in which children learn respect, sportsmanship and skills. Players receive equal playing time and are introduced to all positions.

Lacrosse

The Boy's Travel Lacrosse League starts March 20 for grades 1-8. Register by March 6 to be included into the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association.

Northbrook Park District and Glenbrook North High School have established a beneficial relationship with coaches involved in both the High School and in the District's youth lacrosse programs. For many players, this is an opportunity to play for their hometown and work with GBN coaches before entering high school.

"The Northbrook Park District Boys Travel Lacrosse program is perfect for players of all skill levels and combines the best of both a Travel League and a House League," said Recreation Supervisor Cameron Edelman. "We are very fortunate to have many of the Glenbrook North High School coaches involved in the program, giving the players the highest quality of coaching."

The Park District has recently partnered with Lakeshore Lacrosse to offer new lacrosse programs specifically for girls. According to Edelman, Lakeshore lacrosse coaches are excited to teach the game of lacrosse and look forward to the upcoming Spring Girls Lacrosse House League season. "We encourage players of all skill levels to come on out!" said Edelman. Lakeshore Little Laxers for girls ages 5-7 and Lakeshore Laxers for girls 8-11 start Feb. 23. The Spring Lakeshore Girls Lacrosse House league serves girls ages 8-15 and begins April 11.

Other programs include the Youth Lacrosse Development Program and Intro to Lacrosse for ages 5-7.

A free Boy's Lacrosse Clinic for grades K-8 is planned for Feb. 11 from 5-6pm at the Glenbrook North Fieldhouse. Participants are invited to bring lacrosse sticks and enjoy an introduction to the District's lacrosse program. Run by District coaches and Glenbrook North High School coaches and players, the event provides opportunities to test shot speeds and participate in raffles to win prizes.

Soccer

Soccer stars get to hit the fields April 15. The Youth Spring Soccer League is offered to players in Pre-K through Grade 6. Participants who register for the Spring Soccer League by March 6 receive a discount of 10%. Team formation begins after early registration fee deadline.

"The Northbrook Park District House Soccer League is a high-quality community-based program for kids of all skill levels that allows children to learn and improve their soccer skills in a fun and safe environment with their friends," said Edelman. "We are also very excited for our end of the season soccer Jamboree, that will close out the season on the Techny turf field with a DJ, music, raffle prizes, games and more!"
