Eli Skinner Chapter, NSDAR holds annual Day of Service
The Eli Skinner Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) held their annual Day of Service on Thursday Oct. 6.
The women of the chapter turned Room One at the Palatine Library (700 North Court, Palatine) into an assembly line dedicated to making winter hats for needy veterans. While some of the members cut microfleece fabric into pattern pieces, some assembled the hats on sewing machines, and others put the finishing touches on the hats with hand stitching. The chapter is working towards their goal to provide 700 hats at the Chicago Stand Down event on October 28th for veterans.
In addition to making hats, the women also produced close to 100 hand written notes of gratitude for veterans, and have been collecting socks and toiletries for distribution.
The NSDAR is a women's service organization, dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. NSDAR members come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, but all share a common bond of having an ancestor who helped contribute to securing the independence of the United States of America. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today's world. More than 1,000,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded over 125 years ago. They became members to honor their heritage as well as make a difference in their communities across the country and the world.
