Hey Nonny Announces Holiday Line-up
With a touch of fall in the air, Hey Nonny, Arlington Heights music venue and bistro has its eye on the holidays. Hey Nonny has put on sale its entire holiday line-up, starting with its popular A Christmas Story pop-up on Nov. 25.
This year's line-up includes jazz favorites The Chris White Trio, musical comedian Dave Rudolf, the legendary Wayne Messmer, as well as performers from rock, country, swing, blues, chamber, and cabaret lineage.
"The holiday season is a blast at Hey Nonny," said co-owner Chris Dungan. "Everyone loves to get out and enjoy the spirit of the season and we welcome groups, families, and many of our regular music lovers throughout the holidays."
As in prior years the A Christmas Story set will take over the Hey Nonny Bistro room, including the leg lamp, the Red Ryder BB gun, and the infamous flag pole.
"They all make great backgrounds for family pictures," said Dungan.
The musical centerpiece of the holiday season at Hey Nonny will once again be the A Charlie Brown Christmas performances by jazz favorites The Chris White Trio, with two shows on Saturday Dec. 3 at 7 and 9 p.m. and one more on Sunday Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.
"This is one of the most sought-after holiday shows across Chicagoland and we are thrilled to have Chris and the boys back on our stage," co-owner Chip Brooks said. "As always, Chris will have a very sad little Christmas tree on our grand piano."
The shows are made possible in part by Mitchell Marketing Management which sponsors the show annually.
Hey Nonny's music line-up will kick off on Nov. 30 with Chicago's favorite guitar ace, Joel Paterson doing a Christmas show featuring his country/rock style. On Dec. 7, Hey Nonny maximizes its intimate setting with the 4 Chairs Cabaret Holiday Show at 7:30 p.m.
The weekend of Dec. 10 and 11 will feature swing and chamber performances with The Anthony Bruno Christmas Spectacular lighting up the stage with a holiday swing performance on the 10th at 7:30 p.m. ahead of a 4 p.m. "Holiday Tunes" performance on Dec. 11 by the Gaudete Brass Quintet.
"The Gaudete Brass Quintet is made up of the top brass players in Chicago," Brooks said. "They may wear crazy sweaters, but they're seriously great."
Girls Like Us, the Chicago cabaret super-group consisting of Beckie Menzie, Laura Freeman and Marianne Murphy Orland, will present their Most Wonderful Time of the Year show on December 14 and then Wayne Messmer makes his Hey Nonny return on the 15th with his unique Holiday Show featuring standards of the season.
A favorite Hey Nonny tradition is back on Sunday Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. with Caroling at Hey Nonny, with singing lead by Kristin Reiff. People may buy tickets only for the caroling, or to also include a post-caroling holiday dinner at Hey Nonny.
On Dec. 20, Hey Nonny hosts Holiday Music Trivia.
"The season will be reaching its peak by then, and everyone will have had the chance to enjoy plenty of great holiday music at Hey Nonny and at home," said Dungan. "We'll test everyone's knowledge with a rousing trivia challenge in our venue."
Classical and rock come together for Dark Side of the Yule at 7:30 p.m. on the 21st before things lighten up considerably as Dave Rudolf brings his Completely Cracked Christmas musical comedy show to town for a Dec. 22 show.
Finally, Chicago blues legends Li 'Ed and the Blues Imperials will perform their holiday show to close out the holidays on Dec. 23.
