Get your photo done 19th-century style at 38th annual Lisle Depot Days
An exciting new demonstration joins returning favorites at the 38th annual Depot Days this year.
Historian Chris Olsen of Dagnabbit Studio will be demonstrating photography as it was done during the latter half of the 1800s. Olsen is a thoroughly engaging educator who will explain the technicalities in an engaging manner.
Visitors will have the opportunity to pose for and purchase portraits taken using wet plate photography.
This new attraction inspired the Lisle Heritage Society's 41st annual Christmas ornament in the collectible Heritage ornament series.
Portraits of Lisle residents of the 19th century in charming, ornate frames create a "series within the series." The backings include the name and information about the person photographed.
The ornaments will be on sale during Depot Days. Come and see who from Lisle's local history will be featured.
After Depot Days, the ornaments will be available for purchase on the website, lisleheritagesociety.org. It is a limited edition series.
Returning Depot Days attractions include: hand-led pony rides, petting farm, 17th Corp Civil War Field Hospital, high-wheel bicycles, beekeeping, leather working, traditional rug hooking, hay baling, blacksmithing, wood turning, large HO gauge model railroad layout, games, and much more. All museum buildings will be open.
The annual event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, at the Museums at Lisle Station Park, 921 School St. Admission is free.
Depot Days is presented by the Lisle Heritage Society in partnership with the Lisle Park District.
